Chief Harris began his tenure with the Comptroller's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Houston. He served as Criminal Investigation Division's deputy chief before being appointed chief in January 2017. He has investigated many types of tax fraud cases involving motor fuels taxes, cigarette and tobacco taxes, motor vehicle tax and sales and use tax.
"It is an honor and privilege to serve as chief of the Comptroller's Criminal Investigation Division, the law enforcement unit having primary responsibility for investigating tax-related crimes committed against the State of Texas," says Harris. "CID is a specialized unit with a diverse group of investigators who take their jobs seriously in making the playing field level for every person and business in the state.
"If your intent is to cheat Texas taxpayers," he adds, "then we hope to meet you soon."
Chief Harris holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Christianity from Houston Baptist University and a Master's in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He is a Master Peace Officer and Instructor certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. and an Army veteran.
